The Fight Against COVID-19

March 24, 2020 By Sarah

The world has been shook by the recent spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). More and more people everyday are becoming infected, and the mortality rate continues to rise. The healthcare systems are overwhelmed and it’s also putting additional hardship on the hospital staff. At first it was believed the coronavirus disease only posed a risk for the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions, but recent developments show many younger and healthier individuals are potential victims to COVID-19.

Stay at Home

One of the most important messages being relayed in the media today, is to stay at home if you can. Going out for anything other than life sustaining supplies is not recommended to anyone at this time. There are many orders being put in place around the world to enforce individuals to stay in their homes. These actions are being taken to help slow the spread of the coronavirus and bring relief to the healthcare system.

Cleaning and Disinfecting

As we all know, washing our hands and cleaning around our homes is extremely important during this pandemic. Any extra precautions you can take when it comes to fighting the coronavirus, is highly encouraged. Washing your clothes after a trip to the grocery store and disinfecting the surfaces in your home are a couple of good practices to put in place as we continue to fight the fight against COVID-19. It is much better to be safe rather than sorry in an uncertain time like this.

Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)

March 16, 2020 By Sarah

The novel (new) coronavirus is spreading pretty rapidly throughout the entire world. This pandemic is causing many businesses and schools to cease operations, and has now been declared a National Emergency by President Trump, in a press conference that was held Friday March 13th, 2020. There is no known medicine to treat this new coronavirus, leaving the best methods of protection, being prevention and containment.

COVID-19

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease that is caused by this novel coronavirus. According to the CDC, some of the common symptoms to watch for are:

  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fever

These symptoms generally appear 2-14 days after contracting the coronavirus. It’s highly recommended if any of these symptoms arise, that you call your healthcare provider right away so they can direct you in taking the proper steps. It’s important to recognize these symptoms early and distance yourself from others, to avoid the risk of spreading the coronavirus any further. Older adults and people with preexisting medical conditions are at higher risk of developing the coronoavirus disease.

Prevention is the Best Protection

Since we are aware that currently there is no vaccine or cure for this new coronavirus disease, the best protection is to take necessary precautions to prevent contracting it in the first place. Here are some practices to help with the prevention of the coronavirus:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Cough and sneeze into a tissue or using the inside of your elbow
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Avoid close contact with people
  • Clean and disinfect any surfaces that you may come in contact with

Steramist

Steramist is an EPA registered product we use at Damage Control Inc., to assist in combating the coronovirus. It’s purpose is to disinfect areas that people may come in contact with, that would put them at risk of contracting the coronavirus. This high efficiency mist is easy to apply and proven to eliminate bacteria and viruses.

Here at Damage Control Inc., concern for the community’s safety is our top priority. If you would like to learn more about Damage Control Inc. and how we can assist you in the fight against this new coronavirus, please give us a call today at 877-341-9111. We look forward to partnering with you to help ensure your safety.

RESEARCH

Make sure you know where the pet-friendly
hotels are.

Not all evacuation shelters accept pets, so
research shelters now and keep the info in
your Emergency Kit.

Reach out to family and friends. Make
arrangements ahead of time to find out who may
be able to shelter your pet in an emergency.

MORE TIPS!

1. KNOW WHERE TO LOOK FOR YOUR PET IF THEY’RE AFRAID SO YOU CAN EVACUATE FASTER!

2. PUT A PET RESCUE DECAL ON A DOOR OR WINDOW SO FIRST RESPONDERS KNOW THAT THERE ARE PETS INSIDE!  YOU CAN ORDER A FREE PET SAFETY PACK ONLINE FROM THE ASPCA, WHICH INCLUDES THIS ALONG WITH OTHER IMPORTANT PET SAFETY INFORMATION!

3. MICROCHIP!  ACCORDING TO A 2009 STUDY PERFORMED BY OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY, THE RETURN-TO-OWNER RATE FOR CATS WAS 20 TIMES HIGHER AND FOR DOGS 2.5 TIMES HIGHER FOR MICROCHIPPED PETS THAN WERE THE RATES OF RETURN FOR ALL STRAY CATS AND DOGS THAT ENTERED THE SHELTERS!
